The air at Ralph & Kacoo’s was thick with camaraderie and a sense of shared purpose as the International Propeller Club, Port of Mobile, gathered for its annual awards presentation. The evening was a testament to the strength and vitality of Mobile’s maritime community, a sector that serves as the economic bedrock of our region. As outgoing president Brian Harold took the podium, he spoke of a year of growth and collaboration before turning to the night’s main event: honoring two individuals whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the industry and the club itself.
This year, the club bestowed its highest honors upon Mr. Don Rose, named the 2025 Maritime Person of the Year, and Mr. Andrew Cooper, recognized as the 2025 Member of the Year. Both awards, though different in their scope, highlight the passion, dedication, and leadership that keep the Port of Mobile thriving.
Maritime Person of the Year: Don Rose
The Maritime Person of the Year award is a prestigious honor reserved for an individual whose contributions have significantly shaped and advanced the maritime interests of Mobile. In selecting Don Rose, the Propeller Club has recognized one of the critical, often unsung, heroes of our port’s success. As the Director of Procurement for the City of Mobile, Mr. Rose operates at the crucial nexus of public governance and private enterprise, ensuring the massive projects that drive our port forward are managed with integrity, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.
Member of the Year: Andrew Cooper
The Member of the Year award celebrates the vital work done within the Propeller Club. It recognizes the member whose energy, initiative, and commitment have most significantly advanced the club’s mission. This year, that honor was awarded to Andrew Cooper for his tireless work. As chair of the Membership Committee, Andrew spearheaded a successful outreach campaign that brought a new wave of young and seasoned professionals into the organization.
As the evening concluded, the applause for Don Rose and Andrew Cooper echoed the collective pride of a community united by the water. Their achievements serve as a powerful reminder that the success of the Port of Mobile is built not just on steel and concrete, but on the vision, dedication, and character of its people.
