With over 675 employees these departments have a combined budget of $65 million. Mobile Public Works manages over $750 million in engineering\, design\, project management\, construction\, and service contracts across the city. \n\n\n\nPrior to assuming the role as Executive Director\, Jim served as Project Executive in the FederalDivision of B.L. Harbert\, International headquartered in Birmingham\, AL where he managedprojects throughout the United States. \n\n\n\nPreviously\, Jim served nearly twenty-five years as an Engineer Officer in the United States Army\,with his final duty assignment as the 52nd Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers(USACE) Mobile District. During his time in Mobile\, Jim led many efforts including the study towiden and deepen the entrance channel to the Port of Mobile and the $3 billion recovery missionin Puerto Rico following the devastating Hurricane Maria. Jim also served as the 62ndCommander of the Nashville District from 2011-2013 and Deputy Commander of the U.S. ArmyCorps of Engineers Los Angeles District from 2003-2005. \n\n\n\nSome of Jim’s other experience includes: Chief of Engineer Plans\, United States CentralCommand\, Tampa\, FL; Congressional Fellow to two United States Senators\, Washington\, D.C.;and Legislative Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Army\, Pentagon\, Washington\, D.C. Vehicles will be unable to pull up next to tent locations as in previous years. There will be a loading/unloading zone located in the driveway area just to the north of GulfQuest’s entrance. This is a short distance from the loading/unloading area to the tent area. Even though it is a short distance\, we suggest you take something to help you transport your tent/chairs/gumbo supplies from the loading/unloading area to your tent.  Once you’ve unloaded\, please park your vehicle in the Cruise Terminal parking garage. After the event\, you may use this same loading/unloading area.  \n\n\n\n\nTents are to be set up/erected with sandbags as anchors. \n\n\n\nCooking is permitted on paved areas only. An appropriate protection mat or barrier should be placed between the cooking equipment and paved area.\n\n\n\nPropeller Club will provide bowls\, spoons\, napkins\, gloves\, which will be distributed to teams on the afternoon of the event.  If additional supplies are needed\, they may be picked up at the Propeller Club tent throughout the event.\n\n\n\n\nTents: Please notify Wendy Crocker (251-680-7716 or wendycrocker1@yahoo.com) of the company that will be installing your tent. Port City Rentals is a sponsor of the event. If you need to rent a tent\, table or chairs we encourage you to use Port City Rentals since they will already be on-site. Weather permitting\, Port City Rental will set up tents on 5/18/22 and tear down on 5/20/22.  There is no overnight security so we encourage you not to leave small rented items overnight.  \n\n\n\nGumbo: Teams are responsible for furnishing and serving their own gumbo.  Any kind of gumbo is allowed. Teams may pre-cook and heat at the event. We advise that teams prepare at least 6-8 gallons. Teams are only to serve gumbo to event guests\, who can be identified by the event wristband.  Please direct guests without wristbands to the entry table. \n\n\n\nTicket Pick-Up:  Teams can pick up tickets (and t-shirts if ordered) in advance at GulfQuest\, 155 S Water St\, Mobile\, AL 36602 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday\, May 18\, 2032; and from 8:30 a.m. – noon on Friday\, May 19\, 2023. If tickets and t-shirts are not picked up by noon Friday\, May 19\, 2023\, they will be available at the registration table located at the event entrance on the south side of the GulfQuest Building at 5:00 p.m.  Additional tickets and t-shirts may be purchased at the event. \n\n\n\nAwards:  Awards will be given to first\, second\, and third place gumbo teams\, first place booth decorations and to “The People’s Choice” – a category which allows the guests to choose the gumbo they like the best. For The People’s Choice\, large plastic jars will be distributed to all gumbo stations and the team with the most tips will win “The People’s Choice Award.” Anyone can put money in the jar (team members included) and the tips go to The Propeller Club’s charity of choice. Jars will be picked up at 7:00 p.m.   \n\n\n\nGumbo/Judging Schedule: Teams will be given gumbo containers to use for judging and will be responsible for taking gumbo to the judge’s table. About one hour before the start of the event\, The Propeller Club will deliver the gumbo containers to each team’s tent. At this time\, you will also receive a time to take gumbo to the judge’s table. Winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m.  Gumbo will be judged on presentation\, flavor\, texture and aroma. \n\n\n\nGarbage: All teams MUST use trash bags and clean all debris from your area before leaving the park. A dumpster will be provided for trash and located in the parking lot of GulfQuest. Upon his appointment to the position\, he placed airline recruitment\, evaluating the roles of Mobile Regional and Downtown Airports\, and expanding business opportunities on the Brookley Aeroplex at the top of his priorities. Curry has spearheaded the Master Planning effort to transform the Mobile Downtown Airport at Brookley into a world class international multi-modal facility. His overall objective is to provide premium air service to the community and manage the assets of the Authority to achieve the greatest economic benefit to the customers of the region. \n\n\n\nSince Mr. Curry’s arrival in Mobile\, he has provided professionalism and expertise in representing MAA with the overall needs of its largest tenants\, such as Airbus\, ST Aerospace\, and Continental Aerospace Technologies. During his tenure\, Airbus has expanded the A320 production capability\, begun building the A220 Aircraft and opened the Flight Works aviation experience center at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley. In addition\, he spearheaded a new agreement with Continental Aerospace Technologies\, where they invested $75 million in a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Further to his achievements\, Mr. Curry also created a new organizational structure with high caliber talent designed to meet the challenges required to lead MAA into the future. \n\n\n\nBecause of Mr. Curry’s wealth of experience in the Airline industry\, he was able to recruit Mobile’s first new airlines since 2003\, Via Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Working with the FAA\, he also managed the Metropolitan Airport Systems Study to determine the feasibility of moving commercial service from the Regional to the Downtown Airport. Under his guidance\, the MAA developed a Master Plan in 18 months\, a process that typically takes three years. The FAA recently approved this plan. \n\n\n\nPrior to his current position with MAA\, Mr. Curry was the Director of Aviation for the City of Tallahassee from December 2013 to September 2014.  During his tenure at TLH\, he guided the transition of the Airport from a regional to International facility.  He was responsible for the $15M modernization project that significantly improved the terminal aesthetics and writing legislation that resulted in $1M state contribution toward improving air service to the Capital City.  In addition\, Chris lead the airport effort to increase the use of green technology by utilizing more than 375 acres of Airport property to build two solar farms. \n\n\n\nBefore his employment in Tallahassee\, he served as Executive Director of the Collier County Airport Authority\, Gary Chicago International Airport and Project Manager of Airspace and Procedure Design for the Boeing Company. \n\n\n\nMr. Curry began his military career in the United States Air Force in 1982 as an air traffic controller and retired in 2001. During his tenure\, he served as manager of air traffic control radar\, tower and airfield management. \n\n\n\nA native of Savannah\, Georgia\, Mr. Curry earned his associate degree in airway science from the Community College of the Air Force\, Montgomery\, AL. Lee Gumbo Cook-Off DESCRIPTION:The Propeller Club\, Port of Mobile\, will host the 25th Annual Rufus B. Lee Gumbo Cook-Off at Cooper Riverside Park on May 20\, 2022\, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  The Gumbo Cook-off recognizes National Maritime Day\, a day annually set aside to recognize America’s maritime industry\, and especially those who serve at sea.  The Gumbo Cook-off celebrates Mobile’s waterfront\, on the waterfront\, which serves as the featured attraction for the event from scenic Cooper Riverside Park. The Cook-off also highlights GulfQuest\, the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico\, and all proceeds from the event will go to support GulfQuest. \n\n\n\nThe Gumbo Cook-off will feature maritime displays\, activities for kids\, music\, and\, of course GUMBO!  Tickets to attend are $15 for 13 and over\, and will include gumbo\, beer and soft drinks. Registered teams will compete for the best tasting gumbo as decided by a distinguished panel of judges. Food service establishments have the option to participate non-competitively with recipe samples other than gumbo. \n\n\n\nKIDS ACTIVITIES:  GulfQuest will have games and art projects for kids. Rick began his career at Cooper T. Smith in New Orleans before joining Puerto Rico Marine Management\, Inc. to direct the company’s terminal\, cargo and warehouse operations. \n\n\n\nRick is active on numerous industry boards and community organizations\, including previously serving as the president of the Propeller Club Port of Canaveral and Port of Jacksonville\, Florida.
